Steel Industry Protective Clothing
A steel plant is really several thermal environments in one site, and clothing that is right for one area is wrong for another. At the melt shop and continuous caster, workers face radiant heat and molten iron splash. In rolling mills, the hazard shifts to contact heat from hot product and machinery. In the workshops and maintenance sections that keep a plant running, it is welding spatter, grinding sparks and cutting slag. Specifying one garment for all of it either over-protects (and overheats) the maintenance crew or, far worse, under-protects the caster crew.
Melt shop and casting: aluminized protection
Where molten metal is present, the garment must be rated for it. Indi-Safe's AluTech aluminized range is tested to ISO 11612:2015 at A1 B1 C1 D3 E3 F1. The E3 rating is the one steel buyers should check first: it is the highest level for molten iron splash, tested under ISO 11612's E code. The aluminized para-aramid outer reflects radiant heat away from the body, and the optional FR cotton D59 liner insulates crews working close to the heat.

Maintenance, fabrication and hot work: FR wool and leather
Away from molten metal, the WoolTech range is the working choice. Its 100% flame-retardant wool is tested to ISO 6940, resists ignition, self-extinguishes and shows low melt-drip when sparks and spatter land on it, while staying breathable enough to wear for a full shift. Options run from the standard WoolTech Jacket and Trouser to half and full leather-reinforced jackets for high-wear work, and the AluTech-reinforced trouser where maintenance takes crews close to radiant heat. Compliance context
The Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 requires employers to mitigate hazards as far as reasonably practicable and, where risk remains, General Safety Regulation 2 obliges the employer to provide suitable protective equipment free of charge, train workers in its use and limitations, and enforce that use. For a steel plant, the defensible way to show "suitable" is to match the garment's tested ratings to the documented hazard: molten iron splash areas get E-rated aluminized gear, hot work areas get FR wool.
