Custom Workwear & CMT Manufacturing

Not every workwear requirement fits a catalogue. Some companies have a garment specification written into their site standards. Some brands and workwear resellers need a production partner rather than a supplier. And some operations simply need an existing garment changed: a different fabric, an extra pocket, reflective tape moved to where their risk assessment says it should be. That is the work our custom and CMT (cut, make and trim) service exists for.

What we take on

Indi-Safe manufactures at 7 Simmonds Street, Selby, Johannesburg, with automated fabric cutting and more than 150 machine operators producing over 20,000 garments per month. Within that capacity we handle three kinds of custom work:

Modification of our own ranges. Our catalogue garments, from aluminized foundry wear to FR wool gear to hi-vis and winter workwear, can be adjusted to your requirement: custom lengths, added reinforcement, your choice of closures, pocket layouts and branding. The AluTech coat and apron, for example, are already offered in 90cm and 120cm lengths with custom lengths on request.

Development from your specification. If your company standard or tender document defines the garment, we build to it. Design development, fabric sourcing, pattern making and sampling happen in-house, so the loop between "not quite right" and "approved" is short. You approve a sealed sample before bulk production starts.

CMT production. If you supply the design and fabric, we cut, make and trim. Brands, resellers and companies with their own fabric agreements use this to get reliable local production without running a factory. Automated cutting keeps panels consistent across the run, and the same quality checks that cover our own ranges cover yours.

How the process runs

It starts with your spec, sample garment or drawings, sent to sales@indisafe.co.za. We come back with feasibility, fabric options and a quote, and we will tell you honestly if a requirement is better met from our existing ranges than by developing something new. From there: pattern and sample, your approval, then bulk production. A quality report is issued with every order, and because your patterns and sizing stay on file, reorders skip straight to production. For most clients the first order is the slowest one they ever place.

Why local CMT beats importing for workwear

Imported workwear is priced for the container, not the contract. The realities of industrial buying, such as mid-contract headcount changes, odd size runs, a hazard assessment that demands a garment change, do not fit a twelve-week shipping cycle. Local manufacture means your reorder lead time is measured in production days, minimum quantities can flex between bulk runs and smaller top-ups, and the person who answers your query can walk onto the factory floor and look at your garment. Since 1984 that has been the way Indi-Safe works.
